Work meeting of the Pilot Managers in Navarra in areas vulnerable to Nitrates

Villava 05/11/18. The LIFE AGROgestor platform will be validated in 3 collective management environmental pilots during the years 2018, 2019 and 2020. The pilots have been chosen to respond to each of the environmental problems that are the object of the project: Water scarcity, nitrate contamination, and the problem of organic fertilizers.

ITAP, in Albacete, is in charge of the pilot demonstration in basins with over exploitation. MAS BADIA, in Catalonia, is in charge of the demonstration pilot in areas with organic waste and INTIA, in Navarre, is in charge of demonstration pilot in vulnerable areas for nitrates.

The pilot in Navarra will be carried out in Sector I of the Canal de Navarra-Valdizarbe, encompassing a Collective Management Area (AGC) of 1.1152 ha. in which 90% of the surface is encompassed in the Vulnerable Zone of the Rio Robo, 40% of it is dedicated to Corn and Wheat.

Pilot plots will be defined in which the calibration and validation will be carried out based on direct variables (collective soil monitoring) and indirect variables (medium resolution satellite images from Sentinel-2)

The actors involved in the pilot in Navarra are Cooperativa Orvalaiz, Environmental Management of Navarra (GAN), Irrigation Community of the Navarra Canal, Aguacanal and INTIA.
